Cuts are a crime

Victoria has seen yet another jump in crime under the Napthine Liberal Government, with a 3.1 per cent rise in total crime, drug offences up 14.4 per cent, assault including family violence up 3.3 per cent and ‘other’ crime increasing 17.6 per cent.
Locally, the latest crime data has revealed a 15 per cent rise in burglaries across Casey, and a 3.6 per cent rise in thefts from a motor vehicle.
We are also seeing a 10 per cent rise in domestic violence reports.
This is at the same time as the Napthine Government has axed BSafe, a program that pioneered SOS alarms in households and helped prevent family violence.
The government has also cut funding and jobs at the Justice Department.
Women at risk are more vulnerable under the Napthine Government due to funding cuts across the board to services that support tackling family violence.
Our prisons are overflowing, crime prevention programs are being axed, and police aren’t getting the support they need.
After three years of cuts, it’s just not good enough. Our communities deserve better.
Luke Donnellan,
Narre Warren South MP.
