Not about glory

FOR John Glazebrook to assert that the “real heroes” of World War I were an anti-conscription archbishop and three socialist organisations is nothing short of a disgrace (Unnecessary Sacrifice, News, 6 March).
To also believe the Anzac “celebrations” – his word – to be disrespectful to Archbishop Mannix and these organisations is laughable.
The ceremonies that will be held next year are commemorations in memory of those lost, not ceremonies to celebrate the falsification of history and the glorification of war.
There is nothing glorious about war, Mr Glazebrook.
The real heroes, Mr Glazebrook, were the thousands of men, and boys, who patriotically volunteered to serve overseas and tragically lost their lives or were wounded physically or mentally while doing so.
Lest we forget.
