THE City of Casey passed a motion last week which could see a school bus stop in Narre Warren North moved up the road to avoid traffic congestion outside a mental health facility.
Council officers will now investigate the traffic congestion in Memorial Drive outside the Narre Warren Adult PARC facility, that is further complicated by a bus stop located opposite.
The investigation will consider on-street parking controls at the site and whether there is a “more suitable alternative location” for the school bus stop.
Council officers, who previously looked into the traffic conditions at Memorial Drive, hadn’t found that they warranted any changes.
But Councillor Rosalie Crestani, who raised the motion, believed the issue was worth revisiting.
Cr Crestani said the bus stop could potentially move to the corner of Memorial Drive and Brundrett Road to ease the congestion.
She said the bus service was provided by Public Transport Victoria and operated under a contract between the respective school and the bus operator.
“As the buses are standard vehicles, they do not need to seek council approval to travel on local roads or to stop along these roads provided they obey the road rules,” Cr Crestani said.
“This does create some difficulty in managing these types of issues as we then need to identify the operator and then chase back through to the school contracting these services in order to discuss changes to these types of services.”
