Crowd pays early respects

IN WHAT has become tradition for the people of Endeavour Hills and the surrounding suburbs, an early Anzac Day service was held at the suburb’s memorial on Wednesday morning.
A crowd made up of veterans, local politicians and school students paid their respects at the corner of James Cook Drive and Heatherton Road.
Casey Deputy Mayor Amanda Stapledon said the Endeavour Hills service, which was organised by the Dandenong Cranbourne RSL sub-branch, was an opportunity for the community to come together in remembrance and gratitude.
“To all Australians, Anzaz Day is a tradition, paid for in blood and celebrated in our freedom.
“It is a day in which we salute the Anzacs and in paying tribute to them we take the opportunity to invigorate our national spirit and pride,” she said.
“The legend of the Anzacs is just the first in a very long list of deeds of valour performed by the servicemen and women of Australia’s military since that fateful landing at Anzac Cove.”
