CASEY Traffic Management Unit (TMU) has slammed the behaviour of several local motorists after a string of separate incidents in which drivers have shown total disrespect to road laws and fellow road users.
Sergeant Pat McGavigan of Casey TMU said the incidents were a matter of “road trauma just waiting to happen”.
Last week a Berwick woman was caught driving at more than twice the limit in a school zone in Pakenham and a Doveton man was detected travelling at more than 100km/h over the limit.
And a 23-year-old Cranbourne man had his Nissan coupe impounded after he was caught doing a burn-out as he entered the South Gippsland Highway.
The Doveton man was clocked at 202km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Monash Freeway in Chadstone.
Malvern Police pulled him over about 3am and impounded his BMW sedan for at least 48 hours. He’ll be charged on summons for dangerous driving and speeding.
Police caught the Berwick woman on Pakenham Road about 3pm and intercepted her car without incident. She was then issued with a penalty notice.
The Cranbourne driver will face charges including improper use of a motor vehicle, careless driving, and causing undue smoke or noise – intentionally causing loss of traction by one or more wheels. He will also have to pay $520 for the tow.
The incident in the school zone has prompted a police warning for motorists to be aware of the varying speed limits around schools.
“This is an extremely dangerous speed, particularly for a school zone,” Pakenham Constable Darren Broussard said.
“Police will not tolerate those speeds.”
