College program draws plaudits

NARRE Warren South P-12 College is leading the way in providing an alternative education for local students.
The school was recently acknowledged for its efforts in establishing one of the strongest Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) programs in Victoria.
With almost 150 students enrolled in 2007, the school is giving youngsters a different option from the traditional academic-based VCE study.
Teacher Kelly Lackmann has been leading the way and was recently recognised for her contribution to the development of the program by being awarded the VCAL Achievement Award for Program Development.
Year 12 student Daniel Windsor was also a winner – taking out an award for outstanding achievement at intermediate level.
Ms Lackmann and Daniel were both heavily involved in community projects that raised significant sums of money for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
VCAL program manager Rob Duncan said both award winners were ideal role models for all VCAL staff and students.
“We are really proud of the achievements of both Kelly and Daniel, as we are of all of our staff and students,” Mr Duncan said.
“It has been a major undertaking to establish the VCAL program at this school and the positive endorsement of the programs we run at this school is great acknowledgment for the hard work of many,” he said.
