Thanks a million you beaut ute

By DANNY BUTTLER

LATER this year, David Kett should have a million more reasons to love his faithful old Kingswood.
The Narre Warren South piano tuner has less than 10,000 kilometres to travel until his 1979 HZ ute’s odometer clicks over from 999,999 to 000,000.
While he still has a way to go match the record 3 million miles driven by a New York Volvo owner, David sees no reason that the magic million mark should signify the beginning of the end for his beloved ute.
“The only limit would be wrapping it around a tree,” he said.
The 51-year-old reckons he will hit his mark by the beginning of spring.
After that it’s back on the road, with no plans for the scrapyard quite yet.
