Councillors’ kitty cash cleanout

CASEY councillors cleared out the remaining money in their ward allocation request kitty at last week’s council meeting.
Springfield councillor Lorraine Wreford donated $1050 between the Narre Warren South Scouting Group and the Casey North Community Information and Support Service.
Fellow ward councillor Michael Farley had the youngsters in mind when he shared his remaining $150 between Littlecroft Children’s Services Centre and Strathaird Children’s Centre.
Casey mayor Colin Butler allocated his last $700 to the Warneet Community Centre, Turning Point Family Church and Cranbourne Information and Support Service (CISS).
River Gum councillor Wayne Smith gave $164 to the Variety Christmas Party for Special Children and Edrington councillor Brian Hetherton helped out the Berwick CFA with some money.
Councillors will have their ward allocation balances renewed at the start of the next financial year on 1 July.
Cr Butler said ward allocation money was an ideal way for councillors to support local groups and organisations with small donations.
“A lot of people will contact councillors and they might say we need this amount for equipment or some other service,” Cr Butler.
He said councillors had guidelines as to how they could spend their annual allocation.
“If it is something small that a group needs or if they need something urgently it is a good way to get the money quickly to them,” he said.
