Garden hoses help stop fire

FIRE destroyed a Narre Warren unit on Saturday night. The Pentland Drive house caught alight about 9.45pm and the flames quickly spread.
Narre Warren CFA members attended and were supported by a Berwick CFA unit who also helped fight the blaze.
Incident controller and Lieutenant Paul Hardy said crews worked well to prevent major damage to neighbouring properties.
“Crews did an internal search, where it was safe to do so, and once it was determined that no one was home, an external attack was decided as the safest method,” Lt Hardy said.
He said the CFA did a great job in protecting property, with only the house next door suffering four cracked windows from the heat.
No one was injured during the fire.
“It was also great work from a neighbour across the road who warned the people on either side of the unit of the impending danger and to tell them to use their garden hose to protect their properties until the fire brigade arrived.”
Lt Hardy said the cause of the fire was being investigated.
