Kids care adds colour

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

HALLAM Senior College isn’t just for the seniors any more.
This term the school has welcomed the introduction of a Colourful Kids Community Playgroup for children which has been set up and co-ordinated by the year 12 community services students.
The service, which is aimed at children aged up to five years old, has been registered with Playgroup Victoria and is free for all parents and carers.
“They can come in and the parents and carers can take a load off if they want and enjoy a hot drink while their babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers are entertained by a range of fun, creative and educational activities facilitated by the year 12 community services students,” community services teacher Lizl Tregidga said.
“We currently run this service to our local and wider community to build relationships with them as well as providing a practical learning environment for our year 12 community services students to fulfil the requirements of certain units of competency within their certificate.”
Ms Tregidga said even she had been known to drop her kids off at the playgroup once and while.
“As a working mum, I absolutely love having my kids around at work one morning a week,” she said.
“It really proves that workplaces can be open to a work-life balance and I am fortunate that particular part of my work is also my life.”
