A NEW market based in Narre Warren might be here to stay if last weekend’s showing was anything to go by.
The inaugural DJ’s Market Day was held at the Oakgrove Community Centre on Saturday with a constant flow of people rolling through the gates to browse more than 40 stalls.
Visitors to the market got involved with pony rides and a petting zoo and were even graced with the presence of mascot DJ the Lion.
The mastermind behind the market, Sharyn Holt, from Narre Warren, started up the venture in memory of her mother, Dawn Jackson (DJ), who lost her battle with skin cancer.
Entry donations from Saturday will go towards the Melanoma Institute Australia and the market will now run on the second Saturday of every month.
“One couple approached me and asked if it would be a regular event and I said ‘yes, we will be back on 13 September’,” she said.
“They said they had a fantastic time and had come all the way from Glenroy, and would definitely be back at the next one.
“The feedback was amazing – so many people had a great time.
“What’s even more exciting is we have almost filled one collection box full for the Melanoma Institute.
“All in all it was a fantastic success and I can’t wait to do it all again next month with a few different attractions.”
