Sherry time

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

A HALLAM-based business woman was last month recognised for making weddings that little bit extra special.
Sandra Sherry, owner of Groovy Glass, was honoured by the Australian Bridal Industry Academy at the annual awards ceremony held in Queensland on 22 July, winning the category for bridal party gifts.
Ms Sherry welcomed the award, and said it was the first time her business had taken out a top honour despite several nominations.
“As I say, I’ve always been the bridesmaid but never the bride,” she laughed.
“To be recognised by past couples makes you feel really good; it gives you validation for what we’re doing.
“We’ve always been in the top three or top five, but to actually come away with number one rating is fantastic.”
A total of 273 finalists competed for the 35 different wedding categories awarded on the night, which included Limousine Hire, Marriage Celebrants, Wedding Cake Designers, Decorators, Photographers, Disc Jockeys and many others.
ABIA chairman John O’Meara congratulated the finalists on their achievements, noting that the quality of the work reflected in the newlywed’s votes were something that each and every one of the attendees could be proud of.
To win its award, Groovy Glass had to receive a customer satisfaction rating of at least 95 per cent.
“In the wedding industry, there are not many associations that get brides and grooms to vote,” Ms Sherry said.
“For these awards, at the end of every job, we do request for the bride and groom to vote for us, through the industry association.”
And Ms Sherry is very glad they did.
