Signs highlight industrial zones

THE City of Casey has installed new signage at entries to industrial areas as part of their Industrial and Commercial Crime Prevention program.
City of Casey community safety manager Brendan Fitzsimmons said the signs marked ‘protected area’ were intended to act as a deterrent and reduce crime in industrial areas.
“The Casey Industrial Crime Prevention Group is taking active steps to curb the level of crime occurring in industrial estates,” he said. “The ‘protected area’ signage is the first of a series of initiatives that this pioneering group will put into motion to address security issues in the industrial areas,” Mr Fitzsimmons said. The Casey Industrial Crime Prevention Group comprises representatives from the City of Casey, Victoria Police and Casey’s industrial business community who meet on a bimonthly basis to discuss safety and security issues. The group is also exploring the idea of establishing Industrial Neighbourhood Watch zones in the industrial areas with a pilot scheme in the Hallam industrial estate.
The aim of Industrial Neighbourhood Watch is to help address crime and antisocial behaviour issues in the estate by sharing information and giving its community a collective voice.
