Station parking clamp-down

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

CASEY council has made it clear it will be cracking down on drivers who park illegally near Narre Warren Railway Station.
The City of Casey is stepping up patrols around the busy station to penalise commuters who park all day in short-term parking zones which are intended for shoppers who use the nearby Webb Street precinct.
There have been 74 parking infringements issued in the precinct in the past six months.
Springfield Ward councillor Sam Aziz acknowledged parking was at a premium at the commercial precinct, but urged commuters to adhere to parking restrictions.
“Parking restrictions in the area are structured to provide a mix of short-term and all-day parking to meet the needs of both local businesses and train commuters,” he said.
“Short term parking controls are located in the areas of highest demand to encourage turnover of spaces and maximise availability for customers.”
Cr Louise Berkelmans said officers who regularly patrol the area will be on extra alert.
“We understand that parking fills up quickly near the train station, however, we are reminding people who continue to park illegally in the area that they may be fined,” she said.
