TWO vehicles were set alight within hours of each other early last Friday morning.
Police say the attacks on two cars parked on properties just minutes apart may be linked.
The first occurred in Mulguthrie Court, Hallam, between 12.30am and 12.50am on Friday, 22 June.
Petrol was poured over the right-hand side of the 1993 silver Holden Commodore station wagon and set alight.
Damage to the paintwork on the right-hand side extended from the rear to the front.
The roof was badly burnt and the heat melted the driver’s side tail light.
Damage to the car is estimated at $2000.
The second vehicle, a gold 2002 Nissan four-wheel-drive, was parked in the driveway of a Catalpa Street home in Doveton.
The driver’s side window of the vehicle was smashed and accelerant poured in and ignited.
The attack occurred between 2.40am and 2.55am.
Neighbours said they heard a car alarm and went outside to investigate.
They saw the smoke and called the fire brigade.
They said the owner, who had only recently moved to the street, was upset about the incident, and lost a number of tools that were in his car at the time.
There was extensive damage to the vehicle, valued at $30,000.
Police said the reason for the attacks was not clear. Anyone with information is asked to contact Narre Warren Police on 9705 3111.
