Structural Challenge steel top prize

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

A HALLAM-BASED business has been awarded for their extraordinary efforts in the steel industry.
Structural Challenge was awarded the Joint Large Building Projects Award at the 2014 Steel Excellence Awards for Victoria and Tasmania.
Managing director Maria Mavrikos said the award came as a big surprise.
“There’s a nomination process and a submission that you put through, but we didn’t know we were getting it until the awards night,” she said.
“There are five awards on the night, and we were told it would be worth putting in a submission.”
The award places Structural Challenge as one of Australia’s leading structural steel organisations, working with top tier clients throughout the region.
Structural Challenge began in 2000 and has grown from a staff of four to well over 30, including tradesmen and office employees.
“It’s definitely not only rewarding for me but for the rest of the staff, because it’s a lot of hard work,” Ms Mavrikos said of the award.
“Construction is quite a stressful industry.”
The Large Building Projects Award was given for the Green Chemical Futures (GCF) building, which is a 9300 square metre multilevel facility located at Monash University’s Clayton campus.
GCF was converted at an early stage to primarily steel construction.
