Don’t get towed away!

TRAILERS are on the move in Greater Dandenong, Casey and Cardinia – in the hands of thieves.
Police are warning the community to be vigilant following an unusually high number of trailer thefts in the region over the past three months.
Thieves stole 72 trailers in the south east between 1 July and 28 September at all times of the day and night.
Inspector Terry Rowlands said most of the stolen trailers were unsecured and in residential front yards or nature strips.
“The offenders are simply towing them away – it’s an opportunistic crime that can be easily prevented,” he said.
“We’re urging the community to be aware and secure their property including cars, bicycles, boats and trailers.
“If possible, use chains and tow hitch locking devices to secure them to a post or tree and park in well-lit areas.
“We ask that people report suspicious activity immediately by calling triple-zero.”
Insp Rowlands urged people with information about previous thefts to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
