Council sings opera ambassador’s praise

A BERWICK resident who was invited to sing at Government House has been recognised by her local councillors.
At a council meeting on 18 November, Shu-Cheen Yu, a multi-award winning opera singer, was acknowledged for the invitation.
Springfield Ward councillor Sam Aziz commended Shu-Cheen Yu after Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove asked her to sing at a ceremonial welcome and state lunch for the president of the People’s Republic of China at Government House.
Shu-Cheen Yu is part of the City of Casey’s China Project and acts as an ambassador for the council.
She accompanied Cr Aziz on his last trip.
“Casey is so lucky to have Shu-Cheen representing the city on a national and global stage,” he said.
“Shu-Cheen is a great friend of Casey, having accompanied council on its business mission to China in May 2013 at her own cost.”
“I congratulate my dear friend and neighbour Shu-Cheen on this tremendous honour.”
Councillor Aziz said she is a fantastic ambassador for the City of Casey and Mayor Mick Morland also congratulated Shu-Cheen.
“Council congratulates Shu-Cheen on the honour of being invited to perform at the lunch before such a distinguished group of people,” Cr Morland said.
