Insight upgrade

THE Labor Party has promised a $2.4 million upgrade for a Berwick specialist school for the blind, if successful in Saturday’s State Election.
Deputy Opposition Leader James Merlino was joined by Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley to make the pledge last Thursday, which would see the Insight Specialist Primary School at Monash University’s Berwick Campus undergo an expansion.
Labor has promised the funding would go towards a new administration centre, a new running track and an additional oval at the specialist school.
“I’m so proud that Victoria’s only specialist primary school for the blind and vision impaired is in our community,” Ms Graley said.
“We’ll build this school, so kids can get the best start and enjoy a life of independence and confidence.”
Insight founder Alan Lachman welcomed the funding promise with open arms.
“This fantastic commitment will ensure we can build and roll out our Centre of Excellence to reach out to young blind and vision impaired people in the local community and right across Victoria,” he said.
“We want to ensure students and young people who are vision impaired can gain the skills and experience necessary to achieve independence and allow them to have greater choice in what they do later in their lives.”
