Narre Warren Bowls

ON A perfect spring day the Narre Warren Bowls Club held their inaugural Skins Tournament. With a turnout of 22 teams a great day’s bowling was the result, with clubs from as far away as Karingal, Glen Eira and McKinnon represented along with the local clubs.
A sausage sizzle lunch with cold refreshments were enjoyed by all, the competition was fierce and the games were played in great spirit with good prize money on offer. The club is most grateful for the kind sponsorship of The Bendigo Bank – without good sponsors these events could not survive.
The winners of the day from Hampton Park were John Nunan, Shannon Michaleff and Shane Collins and the runners-up were Wilma Stevenson, Reg Johnstone and Iain Stevenson from Narre Warren. I am happy to report all teams won some Skins so nobody went home empty handed.
The club is running another tournament on Saturday, 11 January 2015.
SUNDAY
The Division 2 (1) side played at home against Pakenham and with all four rinks winning consolidated their position in second place on the ladder. The side continues to play consistent bowls but must keep up their form with three games leading up to the Christmas break.
Results: S. Bell/G. Cowan/E. Luyters/N. Bradley won 20/17. K. Murray/K. Mark/R. Lane/Ian Brotherton won 21/19. W. Haringsma/P. O’Day/W. Stevenson/J. Millar won 19/13. E. Vergara/A. Dawson/I. Stevenson/J. Parker won 23/17.
Division 3 travelled to Dandenong Club expecting a tough game, but the result was a rude awakening with a 68-shot loss to a far superior side. It was a loss the side could ill afford and as a result the side is now vulnerable in ninth position on the ladder. With the next game against top side Mulgrave, a huge reversal of form would be needed for the side to be competitive.
Results: P. Lister/R. Young/A. Kidd/J. Heathcote lost 10/37. A. Fitt/J. Dukats/K. Davis/N. Hosmer lost 11/29. M. Graham/S. Boyd/R. Johnston/G. Miller lost 9/26. G. Cadman/A. Scheurer/J. Green/S. Robinson lost 18/24.
After a big win last week in Division 7 and then dropping to third on the laddes the side have now moved back into second on the ladder with a convincing win at home against Fern Tree Gully by 41 shots 93/52 with all four rinks winners. The side is having a good run at the moment and hopefully can continue their form up to the Christmas break.
Results: S. Firmin/G. Bowman/M. Horton/G. Dodd won 22/14. L. O’Brien/C. Lapham/M. Fitt/R. Pigdon won 24/15. S. Birkett/J. Sheahan/R. Hoare/Brian Fraser won 23/9. J. Norman/J. Zanon, E. Van Maanen/D. Brick won 24/14.
Division 8 had a tough assignment at Clayton and were not up to the task wining one rink but a big loss on the other rink ending in a 23-shot loss 55/23.
Results: D. Moore/P. Rouse/E. Rodrigues/A. Tobler lost 8/35. T. Moore/M. Worsley/S. Bulmer/P. Pater won 24/20.
