Timbarra needs girls… footy girls

By JARROD POTTER

SAMMY Price loves to kick bags of goals and take towering marks, but she would love even more to take them among girls her own age.
The Timbarra Tornados Junior Football Club forward could use a lot more team mates after the Tornados started up their inaugural South East Juniors (SEJ) Youth Girls under-12 girls’ team.
The side needs to bolster its numbers ahead of the season start next month and Price, 11, wants to get other girls into in the purple and yellow chevrons to play in the modified nine-a-side competition.
A loyal St Kilda fan, Price joined the club in 2014 and immediately fell in love with getting kicks and handballs and most importantly – goals – just like her favourite Saints.
“Just started last year – I guess I was just brought up on it,” Price said.
“My brother played it and I always went to the AFL games and Sandringham in the VFL.”
One year with the boys was more than enough for Price though and she admits to play in the girls competition – open to any girls aged 10, 11 or 12 at the start of 2015 – she would have an easier time and enjoy her footy more while making new friends.
“I guess really they (boys) are rough and a lot taller than me and I want to make some new friends in this team,” Price said.
“Girls should come down to Timbarra – it’s really fun playing footy.”
