Awards for crime prevention projects

NOMINATIONS for the 2006-07 Crime and Violence Prevention Awards close tomorrow (Friday).
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley said the awards recognised individuals and groups who worked hard developing projects that helped prevent crime.
“They celebrate the work of people in their own neighbourhoods who do their part in making Victoria the safest state in Australia,” Ms Graley said.
She said any project, business, community group, local council, state government department or non-government agency that had made an outstanding contribution to crime or violence prevention, or community safety in Victoria is eligible for the awards.
Ms Graley acknowledged the City of Casey’s Hoon Hotline project, which was an Award winner in 2005, and the council’s Graffiti Management program that won in 2003.
“Many crime prevention projects come out of local safety committees, councils and community groups and I urge people to nominate a local project so we can put our area on the map.” Projects need to have been in operation during the period January 2006 to June 2007 to be eligible for nomination.
