THE Narre Warren Good Guys are certainty living up to their name.
And disadvantaged children are the winners with the electrical goods store helping raise much needed funds for local community group Windermere Child and Family Services.
The company has already raised $722 since 1 July and hopes to raise around $11,000 in the first year of the partnership.
Windermere marketing and development manager Kevin Noonan said he is delighted with the support that will help fund the Kids becoming Champions program.
“Although we are living in an era of unprecedented prosperity, there are still many kids who never get a fair go,” Mr Noonan said.
“Whether they’re trying to cope with serious crisis or disadvantage, with no support, the lives of many kids will centre on a world of welfare dependence, poor education and social isolation,” he said.
Windermere has been making a positive difference to the lives of the most vulnerable children and families in the community for more than 150 years.
The group runs programs and services that have been developed to give those at risk every chance to overcome impediments to their physical, emotional, social and intellectual development and wellbeing.
“With the financial support from the Good Guys we will be able to put the money towards an integrated, early intervention program, which makes a lasting difference to the most at risk kids aged between three and 12 in our local community,” Mr Noonan said.
Narre Warren Good Guys spokesman Matthew Sheedy said he was keen to keep the funds at a local level and believes both staff and customers would rally behind the program.
“Windermere plays an important role in our local community and I’m honoured that we’re playing our part. This unique program is about providing opportunities for children to experience praise and a sense of achievement – often for the first time,” Mr Sheedy said.
The Good Guys National Cause program was launched in November 2006 and has already raised $340,000 and is expected to generate over $750,000 in twelve months. The program is run in partnership with United Way, a national network of not-for-profit organisations that raises funds to support grassroots community projects.
