Eagles’ flood of goals

By JARROD POTTER

CONTINUING the pain-train for all that face Cranbourne, the Eagles soared past Darebin in a 62-point belting.
While 60 points doesn’t seem like a complete demolition, considering the monsoonal rain, hail and sleet and the sodden surface at Casey Fields, that margin was indicative of Cranbourne’s complete control of the clash.
A three-goal opening term set the stage for the Eagles before unleashing total defensive pressure. The Falcons only kicked a solitary behind after quarter time as Kris Smith’s fleet-footed defenders and midfielders seized the ball with ease.
It helped set up Cranbourne’s elite forwards – Hayley Wildes (three goals), who is quickly becoming one of the best players in the division, and Bianca Jakobsson (two goals), who was unstoppable streaming from one end to the other.
Danielle Hardiman’s defensive efforts along with Bonita Wilder, Corrine Cullis and Brianna Phelps (two goals) were also in the best.
The Eagles retain their top billing on the VWFL Division 1 ladder and face Bendigo away next weekend on 3 May.
Cranbourne’s seconds didn’t fare as well, thoroughly bested by Deer Park in a 55-point loss.
Casey Birmingham kicked the Eagles only goal while Kirsty Roche, Jenna Edwards and Cat Robinson featured in the best.
Cranbourne is away against Kew for its Division 3 clash next weekend.
