Falcons’ year of firsts

By JARROD POTTER

EVERYTHING is trending upwards for Endeavour Hills in its inaugural VWFL campaign – blasting away to another thumping win to keep its place atop the VWFL Division 3 ladder.
The very miserly Falcons have only let in 15 points throughout their three matches so far their season and don’t intend to change that any time soon as they restricted the Sharks to a meagre seven.
Shining early as one of the division’s premier players – whether roaming the wings or stationed at centre-half forward – Sarah Wallace (five goals) led the forward charge and clasped marks from all across the field.
She even kicked the goal of the day using the buffeting wind to her advantage.
The Wallace sisters – Sarah and Jessica – as well as Sarah Beattie, Amanda Hancock and Bec Sadler all featured in the best afield.
Coach Mark Haughton has been impressed with his side’s run-and-carry and ability to try out new tactics.
“It was an even better performance just in the way we moved the ball,” Haughton said.
“Transition play, moving the ball around the packs, shepherding.
“It’s been a phenomenal journey and with the firsts doing so well – and the way they play.
“They’ve got a good structure – can think for themselves and experiment – but if that doesn’t work we fall back to the structure.”
Maddy Williams (three goals) may be in doubt with a PCL knee injury set to rule her out for at least a few weeks while Georgia Punton was concussed in the East Division side’s loss to Rosebud.
The coach praised the enigmatic ball magnet Sarah Wallace as well as his half back star Sadler, who rebounds with aplomb and tees up the countless rebound and inside-50s.
Endeavour Hills’ seconds were knocked off 2.3 (15) to Rosebud’s 4.8 (32) in the other Falcons’ clash of the day.
Hallam was shut out by Chirnside Park 0.0 (0) to 14.7 (91) in Division 4.
