A MAN has been bashed and had his property stolen at the Hampton Park Shopping Centre after a Gumtree transaction went pear shaped.
The victim met the potential buyer about 5pm on Sunday 10 May at the shopping centre but the buyer hit the man and took off with the item he was meant to pay for.
A police spokesperson urged people carrying out Gumtree transactions to do so in a safe environment, including outside police stations or near security guards.
On its website Gumtree advises online shoppers to have someone with them if they are visiting someone’s house for a transaction, or have someone with them if a customer is coming to their house, to always inspect the item before agreeing to a sale, and to never send or wire money to anyone they don’t know.
