MORE than 3000 first home buyers started the great Australian dream in the City of Casey last year.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan revealed the numbers after looking into the applications for first home buyer grants.
He said 3159 grants had been given to people in Casey.
“Over the past four years, Victoria has had the highest proportion of first home buyers to total home buyers of any state, reflecting the effectiveness of the Brumby Government’s assistance package for first home buyers,” Mr Donnellan said.
The first home bonus is in addition to the $7000 first home owners grant which is also funded by the Victorian Government.
“The government has provided a range of measures to help address the issue of affordability and ensure that Victoria remains a great place to live and raise a family,” Mr Donnellan said.
He said relief on stamp duty had also encouraged more Victorians to buy a house.
“Since 1 January this stamp duty concession has been taken up by over 5500 home buyers at a cost of more than $10 million.
“The 2000 or so Victorians purchasing homes valued between $200,000 and $300,000 have benefited the most from this stamp duty concession, saving an average of $1387 on their duty payable,” he said.
