Rotarians chip in for rebuild

By CASEY NEILL

NARRE Warren Rotarians have raised more than $2600 to help Nepal rebuild.
A trivia night on 20 June brought in the cash to support the country, left reeling following a 7.9 magnitude earthquake on 25 April.
Bob Powell from the Rotary Club of Endeavour Hills’ Disaster Aid Australia program ran a short slide show on disaster relief.
When the quake struck, Narre Warren Rotarian Rob Hastings was on the third floor of a Kathmandu school with his son Simon, wife Jo and sister-in-law Trish.
“The room started to shake. We were on the third floor, so there was nothing we could do,” he said.
“You were being thrown around like rag dolls.
“We’re just glad to be alive.
“Once we got out into the street it was mayhem, bricks and debris everywhere.”
Mr Hastings called on soccer-loving students to assist his aid efforts, after earlier this year holding the Casey-Cardinia Kick for Kids tournament.
He urged them to hold dress-up days or sausage sizzles to raise funds, and they’ve so far responded with $1300 in donations. Another three schools plan to support the initiative.
