A team unto themselves

By DAVID NAGEL

WE ALL know we can’t trust them, but what if club match committees were actually being honest when they filled out their best players list at the end of each SEFNL game this season.
It would allow us to put a team together, that’s what, made up of the players who have served their clubs with absolute distinction to the half-way mark of the season.
Narre Warren’s Michael Collins, Pakenham’s Dean Blake and ROC’s Nathan Brewster lead the way, named seven times in their club’s best, while Beaconsfield’s Scott Meyer, Cranbourne’s Max Gearon and Pakenham’s Damien Holmes are hot on their heels with six.
Surprise packets on five, include Tooradin youngsters Andrew Proctor and Troy Dolan, while Berwick’s Jimmy Phillips has made the transition from good twos footballer to senior level look easy.
So here we have it, the most consistent performers for the year have their own team.
Their amount of times in the best players list is in brackets.
