RAIN prevented any play in Turf 1, which will play a one-day match next week against St. Mary’s. The other teams were able to play but in some case rain intervened and shortened the day.

Just like last year Cranbourne lost the toss and had to bat but a form reversal saw Cranbourne post a formidable target. New skipper Al Courtney and Leigh Angus opened the batting and got off to a great start, putting on 75 before Leigh went out for 29. Shortly after Al brought up his half century but couldn’t capitalise on what was a typical captain’s knock, being stumped for 54.
Mark Andolfatto and Lucas Ligt put on 46 for the 5th wicket until a mini collapse saw Cranbourne lose 3/0. Mark Andolfatto made a hard-hitting 42. After winning the toss Cranbourne decided to bat and immediately regretted the decision with the top order offering little resistance, slumping to 6/44 after 15 overs. Mark Notaro and Daniel Fox then came together and proceeded to stage a fight back. With the score on 80, Mark Notaro was dismissed for an exciting 23, punctuated by a big 6.
At 7/80 Cranbourne should have folded but the bottom order showed the top order how it is done. With Chris Hale making a patient 21 at number 10 and Ryan Jones making a hard-hitting 24 at number11, the star of the inning was Daniel Fox, who batting at number 8 anchored the innings with a mature 32 no. Needing to bowl 27 overs Cranbourne were into the wickets early, with Jesse Fitzgerald picking up all three, including a catch behind his back.

Having to face an Endeavour Hills team short on numbers, Cranbourne bowled first and made the most of it. Seven bowlers were used and they all performed well, with the most successful bowler being youngster Cameron Petrie who took 2/20 off his six overs.
After bowling the other team out in only 35 overs on what was a rain reduced day, openers Glen Dickinson and Simon Hanger saw the game out to stumps, with Glen on 13 not out and Simon on 7 not out.

After a rain delay reduced play Cranbourne went out to bat with Steve Redgen and Captain Michael Randall opening. After a solid 20- run partnership Steve fell.
After the first wicket the wickets came at regular intervals until father and son combination Murray and David Pratt put on 25 for the 4th wicket. Falling to a spectacular catch David was dismissed for 12 but Murray kept going, finishing the day at 26 not out.

After winning the toss Cranbourne had a bat and not much went right for the whole inning. The one shining star, however, was Luke King, who opening the batting in his comeback game powered his way to a forceful 45. Unfortunately the only other resistance came from Junior Blake Pearce, who in his first senior game second top scored with 9. In reply Buckley Ridges accounted for the total easily, although Nathan Lambden put a scare through them when he took two wickets in two balls. Also to pick up wickets were Blake Pearce and Luke King.
