HOLT MP Anthony Byrne launched his Federal election campaign with the help of deputy opposition leader Julia Gillard last week.
Mr Byrne spoke to a large crowd of supporters outside his Fountain Gate electorate office about his hopes for the upcoming campaign and outlined what he says he will bring to the people of Holt.
“This election is about a referendum on job security,” Mr Byrne said.
“It’s time for a change and the people of Holt are hoping for this change.”
Ms Gillard also addressed the gathering and spoke about what a Kevin Rudd government would bring to the working class people of the electorate.
Workchoices, an “education revolution” and a national plan to fix the country’s hospitals were all high on the agenda for the ALP, Ms Gillard said.
“Anthony Byrne has been a strong voice who understands the needs of this community.”
Ms Gillard said no Australian worker would be worse off under her party’s industrial relations policy.
“I can guarantee under a Labor Government that you will never be pushed under the minimum award wage.
“We want to end the blame game on health and education.
“Kevin Rudd is the only one that has said ‘the buck stops with me’ when it comes to the health system,” Ms Gillard said.
