Working more WISE-ly

JOB seekers can now access assistance from a new WISE Employment office in Narre Warren.
The not-for-profit job service provider also retained its sites in Dandenong and Cranbourne under the Federal Government’s new jobactive scheme, which came into effect on 1 July.
WISE Employment won a jobactive contract, part of the government’s $5 billion initiative to help employers in the community find work-ready employees, and job seekers find and keep a job or source suitable Work for the Dole activities.
Narre Warren, Dandenong and Cranbourne job seekers can access tailored support based on their assessed needs, from help with looking for work and writing a resume, to preparing for interviews and considering job referrals.
WISE Employment CEO Matt Lambelle said that alongside assessing employment potential and devising personalised plans for each individual, WISE would continue to work with local employers to understand their requirements and offer job-specific training.
La Trobe MP Jason Wood said a national network of organisations was delivering jobactive, which was dedicated to getting more Australians into work.
“Job seekers can receive help with developing a resume, preparing for interviews, accessing training and work experience opportunities, and support to settle in,” he said.
“There is also financial help, such as Relocation Assistance and the Job Commitment Bonus, to help job seekers move from welfare to work.
“For employers, the new model includes wage subsidies of up to $6500 for young job seekers, Indigenous job seekers, the long-term unemployed, and up to $10,000 to help employ older workers.
“These subsidies help to reduce the upfront costs of hiring and training new staff for employers,” Mr Wood added.
