THE theft of two cars from houses in the same Endeavour Hills street in a matter of days could be linked, police say.
The first incident saw an offender break into a Heatherton Road home through a rear door about 10.30pm on Tuesday 11 August, take car keys from a bench inside and use them to steal a Mitsubishi Coupe from the property.
The second incident occurred only a few days later on Friday 14 August, in which an offender broke into another Heatherton Road home, took keys from inside and used them to steal a Toyota station wagon from the driveway.
Detective Senior Sergeant John Bergin said there was certainly a chance the two thefts were linked.
He has previously urged residents to ensure their house and car doors were locked, warning that keys and cars were being stolen from Casey homes at an alarming rate.
“People have to be aware that there are people, irrespective that it’s winter and cold, looking to steal what they can,” he said.
“Do not leave keys visible on kitchen benches and be aware of secondary keys and make appropriate arrangements – because they will be back.”
