AN ENDEAVOUR Hills mother has branded the person who stole her son’s baby seat as heartless.
Cassandra Oldaker returned from a 10-minute trip to the Endeavour Hills Shopping Centre to discover her early model Holden Gemini had been broken into.
Thieves forced the lock about 6pm on 17 October and ransacked the vehicle, stealing a car CD player, speakers and a couple of dollars in coins.
Infuriating Ms Oldaker the most, though, was the theft of her one-year-old son Blake’s baby seat.
“I just thought, ‘oh my god, someone has broken into my car and stole his baby seat’,” she said.
“It’s the most cruelest thing that they could have done. It has just crossed the line and gone too far.”
Ms Oldaker immediately reported the theft to the police and shopping centre management, which later confirmed another baby seat had been stolen on the same day from another vehicle in the car park.
“I’ve had the car for about two years and never had a problem. The car seat is worth about $600,” Ms Oldaker said.
The vehicle was not insured for contents theft, she said.
Although difficult with a baby seat, police recommend that car owners not leave valuables in their car while it is unattended.
Ms Oldaker said she had been able to use another baby seat since the theft, but was still furious about the incident.
“I would just like who ever did this to know how low they are and hope that they can live with stealing from a child,” she said.
Anyone with any information about the theft is asked to contact Endeavour Hills Police on 9709 7666.
