Support staff’s excellent effort

STUDENTS with disabilities find a nurturing and supportive environment at Narre Warren North Primary.
The school’s Education Support Staff (ESS) Team is a finalist for the Victorian Education Excellence Award for Outstanding Education Support Team and could take home a $25,000 prize.
Judges said that effective communication and genuine understanding of how disability could impact learning was key to creating successful education programs.
They said the Narre Warren North team worked hard to create a nurturing and supportive environment for students with additional needs.
“With a focus on developing new skills and fostering independence, the team is constantly implementing new programs to meet individual learning needs,” the judges said.
“Programs such as Toe By Toe reading have seen an increase in students reading and comprehension skills.”
The team also takes a pro-active approach towards supporting students when they’re anxious or distressed.
Victorian Education Excellence Awards winners across nine categories will be announced during an awards evening at Melbourne’s Regent Plaza Ballroom, on Friday 30 October.
