CASEY residents met with Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley last week to discuss the future of the proposed Casey Central Secondary College.
Parent and coordinator of the Casey School 2009 campaign Sue Ernsdoefer said while the meeting with Ms Graley was an important step towards getting answers in relation to the school’s opening date, the meeting did not shed any light on new information.
“Despite efforts over the last few months to get the answer to our question as to whether the school will open in 2009, we still do not have an answer,” Ms Ernsdoefer said.
“However, after discussions with Judith at our meeting last week, we now know at least that the Department of Education and Judith Graley are actually discussing plans for the school.”
Ms Graley described the meeting with Ms Ernsdoefer and other residents as a constructive discussion.
“We are now waiting on an official announcement from the Education Minister, Bronwyn Pike. I expect an answer soon,” Ms Graley said.
While Ms Graley said she has not personally spoken with Ms Pike, discussions with the Minister’s office assure her staff were aware of parents’ concerns in relation to the school.
Ms Ernsdoefer said she was still unhappy with the Education Department’s lack of response after numerous letters and many attempts to discuss the school’s fate.
“We await with great anticipation the outcome and want parents to know that we are still pushing for the school to open on site for year seven students in 2009,” she said.
“Let’s hope there is an announcement soon and it is a positive one.”
