Cult of religion

Casey council’s support for special religious education in state schools is really anti-educational (Council Backing Schools Religious Studies, Berwick News, Thursday 3 December).
If Casey parents and students need religious indoctrination they always have the option of attending a Christian or faith-based school of their own choice.
Religion, however, should not be taught in a state school at any time of the day.
Education is about opening up the mind to inquiry and science; religion is about brain washing.
Real education leads to independence in life while submission to religion leads to domination by cult figures and fear.
Perhaps this is what our mayor and councillors really believe: that Casey residents and ratepayers should submit to their domination?
