THE proposed technical school in Casey will likely be set up at Monash Berwick or Chisholm Tafe.
Councillors discussed the new tech school, which is scheduled to open in late 2018, again on Tuesday night after Cr Wayne Smith called for a meeting with the Andrews government to discuss the proposal last month.
In the lead-up to the state election, Labor promised $125 million for 10 new tech schools in Victoria, with one set to be built in Casey at a cost of about $12.5 million.
Monash University Berwick or Chilshom Institute Berwick Campus have been confirmed as the potential sites for the school, which will be under a public and private partnership.
According to this week’s council report, Casey’s Economic Development Department has contributed to a proposal for the school, which was submitted to Education Minister James Merlino in November.
The awarded funds for the Casey project are expected to be announced this May, while construction of the school is planned to start in November 2017.
But the latest report notes that secondary students “will not be enrolled in this school”, and instead “will visit it”.
The proposal for the school includes a “business incubator space for industry”, a “provision for research”, a laboratory, and an after-hours facility.
