THE arts community continues to thrive in the City of Casey and it was reinforced by the turn out of more than 100 enthusiasts at a recent meeting at The Factory in Cranbourne.
Former TV funny man and now host of ABC’s Sunday Arts program Michael Veitch was the guest speaker at Casey’s Arts Gathering.
The crowd was entertained by Mr Veitch’s inspiring speech on how important it is for people involved in the arts to share their ideas with others, as “the arts can’t flourish in isolation”.
He also encouraged discussion, questions and continued to speak directly with guests throughout the networking part of the event.
The event was formally opened by Casey mayor Colin Butler with Casey’s Arts and Cultural Reference Group chairman councillor Wayne Smith also speaking.
Casey manager of Arts and Leisure Robyn Bowen said the gathering was an opportunity for local artists to come together and network with others.
“This is the first year council has conducted such a gathering and this evening, dedicated to the local arts community, caps off an outstanding year of arts achievements in Casey.”
Ms Bowen said the successful Winter Arts Program, the unveiling of public art work Still Moment at Wilson Botanic Park, again hosting the prestigious Kevin Hill Top Ten Australian Artists Arts Show, and the series of dynamic displays at council’s Civic Centre Art Space throughout the year all point to an active and vibrant local arts community.
“Feedback from guests at the arts gathering was extremely positive, with many expressing interest in being involved in future Arts Gatherings,” Ms Bowen added.
