Brace for impact

By CAM LUCADOU-WELLS

A WILD windy night of weather is set to intensify from about 10am this morning (Tuesday, 3 May).
A spokeswoman from Emergency Management Victoria’s State Control Centre said there had been at least 69 reported wind damage incidents since midnight across the state.
Narre Warren was one of the most affected suburbs, with three reported incidents.
The spokeswoman said the incidents included trees over roads and building damage, but as yet no trees had fallen on buildings.
Weather forecasts predict north to north-westerly winds about 60 km/h with damaging peak gusts of 90-100 km/h across the state, including in the south-east.
“We’re expecting the strong winds to intensify from 10am as a cold front moves across the state,” the spokeswoman said.
She advised residents to clear their yards of loose items such as outdoor furniture, umbrellas and trampolines which can “turn into missiles” launched by the strong winds.
“Take special care driving today. Be alert for trees and drive to the conditions.”
For emergency help, call SES on 132 500.
