Vandals on a 12-car wrecking spree smashed their windscreens and carved ‘Apex’ into their panels in Hallam and Narre Warren.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Ivan Bobetic told a media briefing at Dandenong Police Station on Thursday 2 June that the incidents occurred in the early hours of that morning.
“It appears that there’s been a spate of car break-ins and damage to cars in the Hallam and Narre Warren North area,” he said.
“On face value, it would appear to be the same suspects who have done it.
“They’ve jumped on cars, smashed windscreens and windows, and entered a couple of the cars.”
Act Sen Sgt Bobetic said the vandals had also scratched and defaced car panels with the word Apex, although it’s unknown if members of the notorious car-stealing gang were actually involved.
“It’s certainly an inquiry that we’ll be making however it would appear that this sort of offending isn’t of the same magnitude or modus operandi, if you like, that we are uncovering in his particular area,” he said.
“At this point we have up to a dozen vehicles across the Hallam, Narre Warren and Narre Warren North area that have been affected but we have more cars being reported.
“It occurred in the early hours of the morning so there hasn’t been any witnesses who’ve come forward with any descriptions but we’ll certainly be canvassing these areas as part of our investigation.”
Star News also believes a car was vandalised in Charles Green Drive, Endeavour Hills, the same morning.
Act Sen Sgt Bobetic said police would also search for CCTV footage and urged anyone with relevant vision or information call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
