THE City of Casey will soon have a presence in Africa after a local church group flew to Uganda recently to help build a classroom for underprivileged children.
Team leader Barry Cutchie was joined by Berwick Church of Christ volunteers and other local church members visited the Watoto charity in the country’s capital of Kampala.
The group’s mission is to build the Casey City Schoolroom with money raised from various fundraisers conducted by the church.
The trip is expected to last about three weeks for the touring party.
The Watoto Children’s Choir, which is made up of performers who have lost either one or both parents to the AIDS epidemic or civil war visited the City of Casey in August last year.
The group produced several unforgettable shows at both the Berwick Church of Christ and Westfield Fountain Gate to help raise more than $50,000 in donations.
About 5000 people saw the lively entertainment over the three-day tour with all money raised going towards the construction of the Casey City Schoolroom.
