Characters come alive

By CAM LUCADOU-WELLS

STUDENTS and staff at Chalcot Lodge Primary School paraded their love of books by dressing up as their favourite characters on 2 August.
Among the motley cast were a convincing BFG, Thing 1 and Thing 2, Willy Wonka and Matilda joining children’s author Leigh Hobbs for the Make-A-Wish Foundation fund-raiser.
The school raised $526 for the foundation as part of a national Book Week fund-raiser, in conjunction with Children’s Book Council of Australia.
Make-A-Wish chief executive Gerard Menses said the event also encouraged children to “rediscover their imagination” through reading.
“That’s just what Make-A-Wish does, we tap into the imagination of a child to grant their most cherished wish, giving them strength to overcome a life-threatening medical condition.”
To register your school for a Book Week fund-raiser, go to makeawish.org.au/bookweek or call 1800 032 260.
