CASEY police officers were forced to open fire on a vehicle that attempted to run them down in Hampton Park on Saturday 19 November.
Police officers were patrolling Campbell Drive near Cairns Road Reserve about 3.30am when they saw a stationary car with lights on in the reserve.
Police drove past a second time, and noticed the dark vehicle had not moved, so the police pulled over behind the car to investigate.
Both police members in the patrol car got out to approach the suspicious vehicle, but the driver of the sedan pulled away, spun around and drove towards the officers at speed.
The two officers were quick to jump out of the way of the speeding car, and the sedan which did not make contact with the police car tried to flee the scene. One police officer fired a shot at the car, and the bullet is believed to have hit the back bumper.
The incident is being investigated by Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit and will be overseen by the Professional Standards Command to assure the officers involved acted in a professional manner.
Anyone who may have witnessed or has any information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 000 333 or submit a confidential report to www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
