THE world game is fast becoming one of the most popular sports in Australia and now local councils are calling for public input into the development of a regional soccer strategy.
The City of Casey, along with Shire of Cardinia and Shire of Yarra Ranges, has partnered with Football Federation Victoria to explore strategies to support and develop soccer within the city and across the region.
Casey mayor Janet Halsall said soccer was an emerging sport, especially for juniors and females, so it was vitally important that councils plan ahead.
“Soccer has become an extremely popular sport and we need to ensure that appropriate resources and facilities are provided for our communities,” she said.
“That’s why we are seeking feedback from individuals and clubs throughout the municipality and across the region on ways to effectively address the current and future needs of this growing sport.”
Specialist sport and recreation planning firm Insight Leisure Planning has been appointed to help develop the Regional Soccer Strategy and will undertake an extensive community consultation process on behalf of the three councils.
Written comments or suggestions are invited and should be received by Friday 7 March. Comments can be sent to Jayson Moran, Insight Leisure Planning, Suite 129/199 Toorak Road, South Yarra, Victoria, 3141, or email jm@insightleisureplanning.com.au.
