Drink driver causes midnight chaos

By Victoria Stone-Meadows

A drunken P-plate driver caused chaos in Berwick on Sunday 23 April when he crashed his car on Centre Road.
Police believe the 20-year-old man lost control of his car about midnight, mounted the footpath and crashed into multiple bollards and a power pole, cutting the street’s electricity.
Irate residents helped restrain the young man who, they say, was trying to flee the trail of wreckage.
When police arrived, and the driver underwent a breath test, he returned a positive blood alcohol content reading of .157 per cent.
The Glen Waverley man’s licence was immediately suspended for 12 months and his vehicle was impounded for a month at a cost of $1052.
He is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving and traffic-related offences.
