A GROUP tackling dangerous and dark spots within the City of Casey will continue operating until at least 2009.
The Lighting and Community Safety Taskforce was granted an extension at Tuesday night’s council meeting after outlining some of its results so far.
Initial meetings have focused on information regarding public lighting and the use of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in public areas.
Local resident Tricia Clarke led the charge with support from local police officers, Casey councillors and officers.
Cr Michael Farley said the police had supplied valuable statistics outlining the break down of crime in various areas.
“It is important for the committee to continue for another 12 months,” Cr Farley said.
Other issues raised included encouraging businesses to sponsor lights in the local area by placing company advertisement on light poles, and the high level of crime in the Hallam industrial area.
The Western Port Greenhouse Alliance (WPGA) also made a presentation about public lighting in Western Port.
