Runners burn the Ks for kids

NARRE Warren CFA members are hitting the pavement and clocking up the kilometres all in the name of charity.
The group of 14 firefighters has already raised more than $5600 as they train for The Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal CityLink Run for the Kids event on 30 March.
A fresh target of $7500 has now been set for the team that has raised the second most out of all groups taking part in the 14.4km event.
Second Lieutenant Travis Carter said the training schedule had differed among various team members.
“We have had a lot of fun doing it,” he said.
“There have been a few concerns about the fitness. It’s a long run, but most of us are probably running between seven and 10ks a week.”
He said there had been some light-hearted concern over some participants going fishing while most of the group was getting valuable kilometres under their belt.
Lt Crater said the group still needed more community support to get to their new target.
“We’re having a barbecue at one of the guy’s houses after we finish. We may even dive into the Yarra to celebrate.”
The 14.4km event, on Sunday, 30 March, takes in various parts of Melbourne including the Domain Tunnel, Bolte Bridge and Spencer Street.
