Bus company hits bad spell

A CRANBOURNE- based bus company has hit back at claims staff cannot spell.
Its comments follow a photo printed in the News last week when Transport Minister Peter Batchelor visited Narre Warren South to announce $1.8 million worth of improvements to Casey’s bus services.
The photo featured Mr Batchelor with a Cranbourne Transit bus with its destination sign reading Narre Warrin South instead of the correct spelling of Narre Warren South.
The News has received several comments from readers following the publication of the spelling blunder.
In one letter sent to the editor, Berwick resident Marion Cobban said she had been disgusted by the ‘large error’ which appeared on page 7 of Berwick News.
“The subject (the letter) is regarding the new buses for the Narre Warren South area, and my disgust… as to the spelling of ‘Warrin’.
“To me, Cranbourne Transit is not something that comes from the Simpson Desert or the back of beyond, so, therefore, (they) should know the correct spelling of Narre Warren.
“(I) could not believe my eyes when first looking at the photograph and the more you look at it, the worse it becomes,” she wrote.
But manager of Cranbourne Transit David Ratner said the spelling mistake was not the company’s fault because the bus had just been delivered and was not currently in service.
He said the bus manufacturer had sent the bus with the incorrect spelling a day before the photo and it was only used to illustrate the improvements to Casey’s bus services and would not be in service until next year.
“The bus is yet to go into service and will not go into service until January when the new services begin.
“The destination signs come in pre programmed with the destination and having only received the bus the day before (the photo) from the manufacturer, we had not had a chance to change the sign,” he said.
