Culture Shock hops to it

A MAJOR hip-hop and R‘n’B event will kick-start National Youth Week across the City of Casey on Saturday, 5 April.
This will be held in the Hampton Park Secondary College gymnasium from 5pm to 10pm.
City of Casey mayor Janet Halsall said Culture Shock was a great opportunity for the young people in Casey to see some world-class performers.
She said there would be a variety of performances from local cultural and hip-hop dance groups.
The event includes dance performances by Freeloaders, Rebecca’s School of Dance, Pollyhood and the Krumping Boys plus world class performers A440, Phinesse, Pataphysics and Meliki.
A440 has achieved worldwide success after being discovered by multi-platinum producer and songwriter Gary Carolla, who also worked with the Backstreet Boys and N’sync.
There will also be market stalls and hair braiding, as well as information stalls run by Hampton Park Scouts, Hampton Park Networking Group, City of Casey’s FReeZA committee and Spectrum Entertainment.
There will be plenty of giveaways and door prizes at the event donated by various businesses in Hampton Park.
City of Casey manager for youth and family services Lee McIntosh said Culture Shock was one of many highlights on the National Youth Week calendar of events.
She said it was sure to be popular among Casey’s young people.
Another feature of the Culture Shock event was a shower head exchange stall.
The stall encourages everyone to bring in their old shower heads with a recent water bill and swap them for a brand new water efficient shower head.
Everyone who brings in an old shower head receives free entry to Culture Shock.
Entry costs $5 at the door.
Culture Shock is an all-ages, drug, alcohol, and smoke free event.
